The GX Foundation, a Hong Kong-based non-governmental charitable organization, held a medal presentation ceremony in Nanning on March 18 to honor medical staff from the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region for their contributions to the Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme.

Leung Chun-ying, the foundation chairman and vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, presented medals to 34 members of five Guangxi medical teams for their work in Cambodia at the event. The medics performed 1,543 free cataract surgeries for citizens across Cambodia during their respective assignments, helping patients regain clear eyesight.

Senior officials from the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and board members of the GX Foundation were also in attendance at the ceremony.

Since the programme's launch, the foundation has partnered with the Health Commission of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to dispatch 26 medical teams to Laos and Cambodia. They have completed over 12,000 free cataract surgeries to date, earning high acclaim from local governments and communities in the two Southeast Asian countries.

Leung commended the Guangxi medical teams for their enduring commitment to overseas medical aid, noting their work not only restores sight to local people but also strengthens people-to-people connectivity and advances China's medical cooperation with the two countries.
