Baise, a key hub of the the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, hosted a conference on April 2 to mobilize cargo sources for the Pinglu Canal, which is approaching completion and set to begin trial operations.
Pinglu Canal is one of China's most ambitious waterway projects, designed to unlock the full trade potential of Guangxi, the only province in China connected to ASEAN by both land and sea.
Organized by the Office of the Leading Group of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, the event highlighted the strategic importance of the Pinglu Canal in establishing a direct waterway from Southwest China to ASEAN countries.
Lin Anren, an official from Guangxi's Development and Reform Commission, emphasized in his speech that the completion of the canal will offer a more convenient, economical and reliable logistics route for enterprises, offering significant advantages for Baise and the broader Southwest region.
He also said that Guangxi is actively shaping policies to support cargo sourcing for the canal and encourages enterprises to explore logistics solutions and collaborative opportunities.
As a vital link between Pinglu Canal Economic Belt and the region of Southwest China Baise is set to benefit from the completion of navigation facilities at the Baise Water Conservancy Hub this year, alongside the canal.
Furthermore, enhancements to the Youjiang Channel and Huangtong-Baise railway are progressing rapidly. These developments will enable goods efficient rail-water intermodal transport to Beibu Gulf Port, facilitating the convergence of goods from Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou provinces in Baise.
