Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun emphasized China's commitment to supporting the central role of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in regional architecture during the 12th ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
He also stated China's readiness to collaborate with regional countries to address differences through dialogue and consultation.
Marking the 15th anniversary of the ADMM-Plus mechanism, Dong highlighted the increasing interconnectedness of regional countries, stressing the growing calls for peace and development amidst rising risks and challenges. He noted that China's Global Governance Initiative aligns closely with the ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, emphasizing the importance of peace, cooperation, and shared development.
As a close neighbor, China is committed to a peaceful and tranquil region and has played a significant role in promoting stability. Dong reiterated China's support for ASEAN's central role and expressed willingness to work with regional partners to enhance open cooperation and act as a stabilizing force. He also pledged China's contribution to ADMM-Plus security cooperation and the development of a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.
In addition to his remarks, Dong held talks with defense leaders from the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Australia.
