A new medical artificial intelligence research institute, initiated by Guangxi Medical University, was unveiled in Nanning on March 16.
It is the only AI-focused new research institution among Guangxi's first batch of artificial intelligence open innovation platforms, poised to drive medical AI technological breakthroughs and deeper cross-border cooperation, adding new impetus to China-ASEAN healthcare collaboration.
Drawing on Guangxi's geographical strengths, the institute will tackle core technical challenges in major disease prevention, public health emergency response and cross-border medical services.

It will streamline the full chain of research, development, application and industrialization to accelerate the transformation of practical medical AI achievements, while integrating into the Belt and Road health cooperation framework to build a key platform for medical open cooperation with ASEAN.
An AI device for identifying Traditional Chinese Medicine constitutions was a major highlight at the launch ceremony. The integrated tech device has been trialed in Thailand and other ASEAN countries, providing scientific support for preventive healthcare.
The institute will build a China-ASEAN joint lab for medical AI and a cross-border medical data sharing platform, deepening cooperation in digital healthcare and telemedicine.
Guangxi Medical University said the institute will advance national health digitalization and AI application standards. A high-quality medical AI development model will be built within three to five years, making AI a core engine for regional health and healthcare development.
