Nanning builds quality child healthcare system

Nanning city held a press conference on the advancement of child health development on Oct 22.

The Nanning municipal health commission introduced that in 2024, the city's neonatal mortality rate dropped to 1.2 per 1,000, infant mortality rate to 2.1 per thousand, and under-5 mortality rate to 3.1 per thousand, hitting record lows and outperforming the national average.

From 2021 to 2024, Nanning invested 870 million yuan ($120 million) in advancing the standardized development of maternal and child health institutions. Two hundred and five pediatric professionals have been trained and assigned to county-level maternal and child health institutions, over 30 new technologies and projects have been introduced at the grassroots level, and more than 30 complex pediatric cases have received joint consultations.

In 2024, the city's premarital medical examination rate reached 99.8 percent, leading the country, while the prenatal screening rate hit 87.5 percent. For five consecutive years, no newborns in Nanning have been diagnosed with severe thalassemia.

Nanning has allocated over 60 million yuan in special funds to establish the Guangxi rehabilitation center for children with special needs. Additionally, more than 2 million yuan has been raised to build a rehabilitation system covering screening, diagnosis, rehabilitation, inclusion, and support, which will benefit over 500 children with special needs.
