Innovation paves way for AI at GLUT

From strengthening top-level design to empowering education and teaching, and from driving management services to serving local development, Guilin University of Technology is building an AI-driven future with AI as its core engine.

Guilin University of Technology has incorporated the development of its artificial intelligence discipline into the university's core agenda, resulting in significant progress.

It has pioneered a pilot "AI and education" reform. The university has established AI and experimental classes in surveying, mapping, and materials science. By linking 14 immersive environments, AI-driven teaching scenarios enable students to conduct practical training, including mineral exploration and disaster prevention, with "zero safety risk".

It has invested over 200 million yuan ($27.6 million) in the upgrading of its teaching facilities. Through an AI-powered IoT platform, precise control over classroom air conditioning systems has been achieved. In 2024, electricity consumption in the classrooms was 85 percent lower than the original budget.

In the medical and health field, an AI-assisted cardiovascular disease prediction model, developed with the People's Hospital of Guilin, has achieved an accuracy rate of 92 percent. To meet the demands of the agriculture and forestry sectors, a "digital-intelligent agriculture platform" offers functions such as pest and disease identification and intelligent irrigation, which has increased resource utilization efficiency by 30 percent.
