Malaysian students gain skills in Guangxi for home rail project

Twenty-five Malaysian students have completed a 10-week internship at Liuzhou Railway Vocational Technical College (LRVTC) in Guangxi, where they developed skills to support Malaysia's East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).

The program, a collaborative effort between Universiti Malaysia Pahang and Beijing Jiaotong University, links theoretical knowledge directly to the practical needs of ECRL's on-the-job training.

Since 2023, LRVTC has partnered with Malaysian institutions and the State-owned China Communications Construction to create a China-Malaysia railway modern craftsman college, advancing technical research, skill training, and talent development during the construction of ECRL.

Chen Zifeng, a mechanical engineering student new to rail transit, learned train maintenance during his internship. "I hope to join ECRL as a mechanical engineer," he said. Jiang Huiling highlighted the importance of expanding global outlooks, aiming to use skills learned in China to contribute to Malaysia's rail industry.

LRVTC also held discussions with Malaysia's embassy, suggesting a deeper "government-enterprise-school" collaboration through the craftsman college.

The goal is to develop versatile talent in rail smart operations and high-speed engineering, strengthening bilateral relations through shared expertise.
