Dawn breaks over Pohao Lake National Wetland Park in Donglan county, Hechi, Guangxi. The lake shimmers, surrounded by lush greenery, as locals jog along the lakeside trail – their footsteps mingling with bird songs, painting a vibrant morning scene.
"I come every day – it's perfect for morning runs. A 10-kilometer loop lifts my mood!" said Qin Xiujuan, a resident of Changle town, Donglan county, who frequents the park with friends.

Covering 549.4 hectares (289.4 hectares of wetlands), the park became a national wetland park in 2023 after years of protection. Donglan's ecological restoration efforts keep water quality above Grade III, fostering rich biodiversity.
With improved facilities like trails and rest areas, the park now draws crowds. Its campsite, open since New Year's Day, once hosted over 50,000 visitors in a single day, while a New Year fun run attracted over 400 runners.
"We'll enhance ecology and infrastructure for larger sports events, and add water activities like bamboo rafting," said Wu Chaozheng, Party chief of Changle town.
These efforts aim to turn Pohao Lake into a regional tourist hotspot, ensuring the ecological gains translate into broader prosperity for the community.
