Hechi leads in high-standard farmland construction
Hechi has been promoting the construction of high-standard farmland in mountainous areas since 2019. The city’s high-standard farmland construction incentive evaluation ranking soared from 13th place in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in 2018 to first place in 2019, maintaining this top position for four consecutive years.
From 2019 to 2023, the city completed a total investment of 1.68 billion yuan ($240 million) in high-standard farmland construction, establishing 1.31 million mu (87,333 hectares) of high-standard farmland, upgrading 107,000 mu of farmland and providing efficient water-saving irrigation for 171,600 mu of farmland.
In 2023, the city coordinated an additional 480 million yuan to realize an average investment of 3,000 yuan per mu in farmland, a significant increase from the previous 2,000 yuan per mu for new construction projects and 1,300 yuan per mu for renovation and upgrading projects.
In 2023, 780,500 farming households in the city met the criteria for subsidy application, with a verified area of 3.5 million mu qualifying for subsidies. The allocated subsidy funds reached 311.92 million yuan.
By the end of 2023, the city had disbursed 311.66 million yuan of subsidies for improving the sustainability of arable land, achieving 99.92 percent of the targeted 311.92 million yuan and surpassing the requirement of Guangxi by 0.92 percent.
