Chenshuang village in Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county is experiencing a boom in traditional handicrafts that is boosting its rural vitalization.

That's in the wake of Chenshuang village's moves in 2021 to develop a "four workshops project", involving intangible cultural heritage inheritance studio, as well as textiles, weaving and painting studios.

The project offers visitors the opportunity to experience traditional Maonan textile crafts such as embroidery, batik and brocade. In addition, they can watch nuo dance performances by the Mao ethnic group.

The project has become a place for students and social organizations in surrounding areas to conduct research and to learn.

Since April, three major cultural and entertainment events have been held in Chenshuang village, attracting nearly 1,100 students from 13 primary and secondary schools in Huanjiang and Jinchengjiang districts.

The project has also provided more than 10 jobs for residents, improving local employment tremendously.

In the future, the municipal government of Sien town plans to connect three villages with the four workshops project to activate ecological resources, develop specialist industries and improve integrated agricultural and tourism development.
