Hechi upgrades industries, promotes green development

In recent years, Hechi has been exploring the construction of a green development pilot zone in Guangxi, which would promote the high-quality development of green industries.

Hechi is a city with rich ecological resources, with a forest coverage rate of 71.57 percent. As an important ecological barrier in northwest Guangxi, it bears the major responsibility of maintaining ecological security.

The General Office of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region issued guidance on supporting Hechi in building a green development pilot zone in 2022.

Hechi is known as the "hometown of non-ferrous metals in China". For a long time, the industrial growth in Hechi mainly came from the mining and smelting industry, which had high pollution, energy consumption, and emission rates.

In order to promote the upgrading of the non-ferrous metal industry, Hechi proposed the "2+5+N" industrial system, which includes two 100-billion-yuan ($13.7-billion) level industrial clusters involving non-ferrous metals and mulberry silk, as well as five 10-billion-yuan-level industrial clusters involving food, home furnishings, building materials, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

Emerging industries, such as new energy, digital, electronic information, life sciences and biotechnology, chemical fibers, and intelligent equipment, are also highlighted in this new industrial system.
