Donglan's orchid blossoms at China-ASEAN Expo

Over 100,000 flowers and plants are adding vibrant colors to the ongoing 20th China-ASEAN Expo, which is held in Nanning from Sept 16 to 19.

Among the flower suppliers, Donglan Junlan Agricultural Technology, a high-tech enterprise based in Donglan county in Hechi, made its debut as the designated floral supplier.

Donglan county is known for its picturesque ecosystem and  environment, boasting a forest coverage rate of 84.35 percent.

"Good water quality, clean air and most importantly being far away from industrial pollution make it an ideal place for cultivating orchids," said Zhang Jinxian, general manager of Donglan Junlan Agricultural Technology.

In recent years, Zhang and his team have been involved in the process of cultivating excellent new orchids through careful and exacting soil selections, base construction, to developing orchid varieties.

Currently, the company has a standardized production base and has independently developed more than 600 new orchid varieties.

"Our company's orchid sales in the first half of the year hit 5 million yuan ($688,000). We have already signed orchid export agreements worth more than 1 million yuan with customers from Singapore and Vietnam," said Deng Zhidong, a manager of the company.

Deng added that as the designated floral supplier for this China-ASEAN Expo, Donglan's orchids will have more opportunities to expand into ASEAN countries.
