In recent years, Dahua Yao autonomous county has been encouraging its farmers to utilize idle spaces such as yards, surroundings and fields to cultivate mulberry trees and raise silkworms.
Through various forms of collaboration models - such as "cooperatives + farmers" and "companies + farmers" - agricultural entities have been cultivated and strengthened in the area.
This initiative not only has provided opportunities for farmers to start up their own businesses, but also contributed to the vitalization of rural areas.
The mulberry orchards in Dahua cover an area of 11,532 mu (768.8 hectares), with an annual yield of silk cocoons reaching 345.96 metric tons.
It has established a standardized mulberry cultivation and silkworm raising demonstration base, four nurseries for young silkworms and a pilot project for feed have been introduced.
