Hechi's Du'an Yao autonomous county increases the income of local residents through developing its ecological circular fisheries.

The Guangxi Du'an Dazhuang Ecological Agriculture Breeding Base is located in Dekang village, Du'an Yao autonomous county, and has dozens of 8-meter diameter circular land-based fish ponds.

"This is Guangxi's first factory-style, three-dimensional breeding base utilizing the circulation agriculture model," said Lan Xun, the enterprise's manager. Lan introduced that base processes materials such as grass fungus that can be used to nourish poultry such as chickens, ducks, and pigs. The poultry manure not only enriches fruits, vegetables, and farmland, but also serves as feed for fish, prawns, and crabs.

The treated wastewater is even utilized for agricultural irrigation, meeting the standards of zero pollution and emissions. As a result, the base has become known for its distinctive brand of edible free-range chicken eggs.

This serves as a vivid example of Du'an's deep integration of agriculture and fisheries industries, fostering the vitalization of rural industries.

Du'an boasts the second-largest underground river system in Asia, and when coupled with the flowing Hongshui River, it provides many resources for the development of modern aquaculture.

While consolidating and expanding its achievements of poverty alleviation, the local government has established two core demonstration areas for modern facility-based fisheries in Disu town and Baiwang town. The county has driven significant income growth for local residents through creating ecological circular fisheries.

Since 2022, the county has attracted 10 enterprises to invest in circular pond aquaculture. Over 7,100 metric tons of aquatic products have been sold to areas such as Guangxi and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with a total sales revenue of over 85 million yuan ($12 million). This new engine of income growth and rural vitalization has brought prosperity to the local community.
