On July 11, celebrations for the Zhuzhu Festival kicked off in Dahua Yao autonomous county.
People from various ethnic groups around the county gathered in Dahong town to celebrate this traditional festival by playing bronze drums, spinning tops, and throwing around embroidered balls.
Known as the New Year for the Yao ethnic group, the Zhuzhu Festival is an annual folk event that is held on the 29th day of the fifth lunar month. It celebrates the harvest and also commemorates Miluotuo, a legendary figure of Yao ethnic group.
Dahua has a three-day holiday for the Zhuzhu Festival, which promotes the ancient Zhuzhu culture.
By using the festival as a platform, Dahua can promote its distinctive agricultural products, such as Qibailong chicken, Hongshui River fish, selenium-rich rice, and black beans.
With the successful start to the Zhuzhu Festival, Dahua looks forward to further promoting its cultural heritage, boosting tourism, and fostering rural vitalization.
