The affinity between Hechi and Luxembourg originated from Nico Hansen, a retired Luxembourg policeman. In 2018, Hansen volunteered to support poverty alleviation efforts in Zhadong village, Liusanjie town, Yizhou district, and established a friendship with Xie Wanju, first Party secretary of Zhadong village.
During the visit, Hubsch visited Guangxi Jialian Silk, Zhadong village, Fengjing Park, the Liusanjie Scenic Area, Lianhua village in Chengguan town, the Yaowangtianxia Scenic Area, the Dongtianjiuhai Scenic Area, and the Baniao Cave Scenic Area.
Hubsch learned about the follow-up development of the industries that Hansen had helped in the past. He also learned about the development of Hechi's sericulture industry, experienced local folk customs, as well as learned about the Liu Sanjie culture, Baiku Yao culture, and longevity culture.
