Yizhou promotes circular economy of silkworm industry
In recent years, Hechi's Yizhou district has increased the utilization of silkworm by-products, creating a circular economy model of the silkworm industry.
In 2022, there were 15 above-scale cocoon and silk enterprises, with a total output value of 2.1 billion yuan ($307.7 million). Yizhou district's silk production, as well as its cocoon and silk processing capacity, continued to maintain first place in Guangxi.
There are currently 15 enterprises that focus on the utilization of silkworm and mulberry resources in Yizhou. After years of development, five industrial chains have been formed, including "mulberry - silkworm - cocoon - silk - silk clothing". In 2022, the district produced 200,000 silk quilts with an output value of 200 million yuan. In addition, by making use of mulberry branches, it produced 23,000 metric tons of fresh mushrooms, with a total output value of 215 million yuan.
The district focuses on promoting the deep integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries with the silkworm industry as the core. On Nov 25, 2022, it hosted the 2022 China Silk Conference and the second China sericulture and silk industry high-quality development conference, where guests discussed and promoted the high-quality development of the cocoon and silk industry.
