Donglan Pohao Lake named 'national wetland park'

Updated: 2023-03-07

On March 6, the Department of Forestry of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region held the 2023 World Wetland Day publicity activity and the national wetland park awarding ceremony in Donglan county. Donglan Pohao Lake National Wetland Park, which passed the acceptance in 2020, was on the list of awardees.

Donglan Pohao Lake National Wetland Park is located in the middle reaches of the Hongshui River. It is a typical "forest wetland" complex ecosystem in the karst area of northwest Guangxi, and has a total area of 549.4 hectares, of which 289.4 hectares are the wetland area.

Since the National Forestry and Grassland Administration approved the construction of Pohao Lake as a national wetland park pilot project in 2014, Hechi has been strengthening wetland ecological protection and restoration by improving and restoring vegetation landscape, as well as protecting rare fish and other animal resources.

The park currently serves as a boutique scenic spot and a green tourism destination in Donglan county, and has enhanced the image of Donglan's ecological and wellness tourism.

To date, Hechi has built three national wetland parks, namely Du'an Chenjiang River National Wetland Park, Nandan Laxi National Wetland Park and Donglan Pohao Lake National Wetland Park. In addition, 24 nature reserves above the autonomous region level have been built.
