Highway from Sancha to Liushan to be put into operation
After nearly two years of construction work, a highway project running from Sancha town in Yizhou district to Liuzhou's Liushan town on Provincial Highway 507 was approved for operation on Feb 16.
The highway passes through Fuli and Sanjiao, spanning 21 kilometers in total and costing 344 million yuan ($50.12 million).
"Since the road was opened to traffic, the driving distance between Sancha town and Liushan town has been shortened dramatically, with motorists now being able to cross the entire highway in just half an hour instead of 90 minutes," said an official in charge of the project construction.
Many ethnic minorities live along the highway including the Zhuang, Miao, and Yao ethnic people. The road's completion has become an important link to promote ethnic unity, the official noted.
With the highway now fully operational, some 20,000 residents will be able to travel much more conveniently, while the development of local industries like sugarcane and silkworm farming will be promoted.
