In recent years, Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county in Hechi has made efforts to promote the transformation and development of the sericulture industry.

In 2022, there were 48,700 farmers in 116 administrative villages of Huanjiang planting mulberry and raising silkworms. Sericulturists earned nearly 2 billion yuan ($295 million) from sericulture.

The total area of mulberry gardens in the county reached 202,000 mu (13,467 hectares), with 888,100 sheet of spring silkworm seeds and nearly 40,000 metric tons in fresh cocoon production.

Huanjiang has advanced the construction of sericulture industry cluster projects at the national and autonomous region levels. In 2022, Huanjiang built 1,240 mu of mechanized, standardized, high-quality mulberry gardens, as well as six new standardized mulberry planting and silkworm breeding demonstration bases.

The county has also promoted high-yielding and high-quality varieties of mulberry trees and domestic silkworm species. It has developed high-yielding cultivation techniques, as well as large-scale, labour-saving, and standardized sericulture techniques.

In addition, Huanjiang has committed itself to cultivating new businesses and focusing on the functional expansion of the sericulture industry. In 2022, Huanjiang built Hechi's first silkworm culture and technology park exhibition hall, which showcases a full range of processes from raising silkworms to making silk products, creating a silk culture experience center.
