Nandan indigo dyeing project wins excellence award

The Fengzhen Indigo Dyeing Workshop project in Nandan county won the excellence award in the 2022 Guangxi Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition for Rural Vitalization, which was announced on Jan 9. It is the only project in Hechi to win this award.

The Nandan Fengzhen Indigo Dyeing Workshop project mainly produces Baiku Yao costumes and develops other creative products by incorporating Baiku Yao culture with modern elements.

The project will increase funding to enable residents of the Baiku Yao settlement to participate in the development and production of these products. It will also focus on strengthening cooperation with markets at home and abroad, to create a high-end ornamental market.

In 2022, Li Qiuyi, a county-level inheritor of Yao costumes and youth representative of the project team, formed a Yao costume culture research team with the College of Arts at Guilin University of Technology to promote the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage skills, and improve the collation and planning of literature. Li also hopes to further innovate cultural and creative products, and expand sales channels.

The 2022 Guangxi Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition set up two special programes for science and technology innovation as well as rural vitalization, aiming to set up a platform for young people to innovate and start their own businesses.
