The locals at the sugarcane base in Shuiyuan town, Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county, have been busy recently. They are harvesting sugarcane and the fields show a busy scene of labor.
The sugarcane base was established in 2011 and covers an area of 180 mu (12 hectares). This base supplements the income of nearby farmers by means of land rent and labor employment. This year, the sugarcane yield of the base is about 1,000 metric tons, and the income is more than 500,000 yuan ($71,846). In the current sugarcane harvest season, there are more than 30 people working in the base every day, and each person's daily income ranges from 100 to 150 yuan.
In order to promote the high-quality development of the sugarcane industry, the county has introduced improved sugarcane varieties and planting methods. In order to promote the sale of sugarcane, the county also introduced a sugarcane planting subsidy to ensure stable and high sugarcane production. From 2022 to 2023, the county has produced 45,900 mu of sugar cane. The expected output is about 130,000 tons, which is valued at 92 million yuan.
