Huanjiang marks decade of change with sweeping transformation
Over the past 10 years, Hechi's Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county, a small county nestled by the riverside, has experienced significant changes in line with its growing ambitions.
With the goal of creating a national 4A tourist attraction in Colorful Maonan Scenic Spot, the county has optimized eight areas, such as improved transportation and a safer overall environment for tourists. It has also seen a major upgrade in service quality, and received positive feedback and reviews from many satisfied tourists.
Over this period, Huanjiang has hewed to the development concept of "Green mountains and clear water are equal to mountains of gold and silver." In the meantime, it has carried out the three key actions of "blue sky, clear water and clean land" in its continuous bid to improve the living environment. The county's management and protection of ecological public welfare forests, its control of rocky desertification, and management of nature reserves have achieved remarkable results, with the Huanjiang National Stone Desert Park having now been approved for construction.
The task of conserving energy and reducing emissions has exceeded all targets, and remarkable achievements have been made in afforestation and water source protection. The county has built 52 demonstration sites for village greening at the autonomous-region level, with a total forest coverage rate of 78.43 percent. In 2021, the water quality in Huanjiang river was given a rating of 100 percent, as were centralized drinking water sources across the county. Meanwhile, the air quality in urban parts of the county was measured for 334 days, with the quality being recorded as excellent 97.6 percent of the time.
