In recent years, Hechi's Donglan county has vigorously developed rural characteristic industries. The total output value of its agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery industries has increased from 1.65 billion yuan ($240 million) in 2019 to 2.28 billion yuan in 2021, with an average annual growth of more than 10 percent.
To facilitate this growth, the county has introduced work plans and subsidy policies. Since 2020, a total of 128.44 million yuan in subsidies have been distributed, benefiting 38,918 households.
To date, the county has completed the establishment of 202 modern characteristic agricultural demonstration zones, achieving full coverage of all townships.
The county has also vigorously improved the quality of farmers' cooperatives and cultivated a number of new business entities. At present, the county has 590 registered cooperatives and 110 family farms. The collective economic income of 149 administrative villages in the county has reached more than 50,000 yuan, of which 58 villages have incomes of more than 100,000 yuan and 12 villages have incomes of more than 200,000 yuan.
The county also focuses on characteristic industries and builds agricultural product brands. Its black chicken, black mountain pig, black rice wine, and chestnut have obtained national Geographical Indication designations. It also created pastoral complexes, such as "red sweet source", "mushroom town", "bronze drum folk culture", and "healthcare town".
