The Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently announced the national surface water quality rankings assessing their status from January to June this year, of which Hechi ranked seventh. In addition, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region had six cities in the top 10 and nine cities in the top 30.

Since the beginning of this year, Guangxi has been focusing on the comprehensive management of the water environment in key river basins like the Lijiang River, Nanliujiang River, Jiuzhou River, Qinjiang River, and Xijiang River. It has also strengthened the implementation of the river and lake chief system, increased the protection of drinking water sources, as well as consolidated the effectiveness of urban black and odorous water treatment.

From January to June, the ecological environment quality of the region continued to be at the forefront of the country, with 98.2 percent of its national surface water assessment sections boasting excellent water quality. The proportion of the area with excellent water quality in its coastal waters was 94.6 percent, ranking second in the country.
