Thousand-year-old camphor tree found in Hechi
Experts from the Guangxi Academy of Forestry recently identified an ancient camphor tree in Hechi, along with officials of the Hechi municipal forestry bureau and the forestry bureau of Luocheng Mulam autonomous county. The ancient camphor tree has been identified as being 1,000 years old, increasing the number of famous thousand-year-old trees in Hechi to 37.
This thousand-year-old camphor tree is growing at Shuangmeng village, Xiaochang'an town, Luocheng Mulam autonomous county. After measurement, the ancient camphor tree has a bust circumference of 888 centimeters and a diameter at breast height of 281 cm. After scientific testing and comprehensive analysis, it was identified as being 1,000 years old.
"This is the oldest ancient camphor tree with the largest diameter at breast height in Hechi. Previously, the largest ancient camphor tree in the city was located in Fushou community, Xunle township, Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county, with a diameter of 281 cm and a tree age of 750 years," said Meng Jiaming, an official of the Hechi municipal forestry bureau who participated in the tree's identification.
The ancient camphor tree has stood for a thousand years and is still green. It stands by the Xinglong Temple and Qinjia Gate Tower, which was awarded as a "historical building of Luocheng Mulam autonomous county," creating a harmonious scene.
