Nala village planted 41 mu (2.7 hectares) of winter wheat last year, with a yield of 12 metric tons. The yield produced 310 kilograms of dry grains per mu, which was an increase compared to last year.
"This winter, Fengshan county plans to plant 2,000 mu of winter wheat, with an estimated output of 600 tons, achieving a year-on-year increase of 1.3 percent in grain output in the county," according to a Fengshan county agriculture and rural affairs Bureau official.
Winter wheat was widely planted in the 1970s in Fengshan county, which not only solved the problem of winter slack in cultivated land, but also solved the problem of rations for the masses. In recent years, production was stopped due to the high seed prices and lack of rural labor.
To increase grain output and make good use of cultivated land, the county is currently planting winter wheat and middle-season rice especially in farming areas above 400 meters above sea level.
