Nearly 40,000 mu (2,667 hectares) of Maonan fertile oranges in Hechi's Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county recently had a bumper harvest.

In the county's village-level collective economic poverty alleviation industrial park, the Mulun ecological fertile orange base in Tangwan village, Chuanshan town, workers are busy picking and packaging the matured fruit.

The industrial park was built at the end of 2017 with 50 villages participating in the operation. It has helped surrounding residents  increase their incomes by land transfer, providing jobs, and teaching planting techniques. To date, 2,500 mu of fertile oranges are planted in the industrial park, and the output is expected to reach 1.5 million kilograms this year.

Maonan fertile oranges were certified as a selenium-enriched agricultural product last year due to their sufficient sunlight, long fruiting time, and high sweetness. Currently, the county's citrus planting area is 37,900 mu, with an estimated annual output of about 40,000 metric tons and an output value of 160 million yuan ($25.3 million).
