The Ministry of Culture and Tourism released a list of the 2021-2023 Hometowns of Chinese Folk Culture and Art on Nov 3. Yizhou district in Hechi is among the eight places in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to make the list.

Hometowns of Chinese Folk Culture and Art refer to specific distinctive areas with popular folk culture and art that have significant influence nationwide.

Yizhou district is an ancient cultural city with a history of 2,100 years. It is the hometown of fairy singer Liu Sanjie and has a rich singing culture.

Yizhou first compiled the image of the singer Liu Sanjie and her ballads into a Guangxi Caitiao opera, which was staged in the 1950s. The movie "Liu Sanjie" was shown at home and abroad, and has had a wide and lasting impact.

Yizhou has held the Liu Sanjie Cultural Tourism Festival every year since 2010, and built a national 4A-level tourist scenic spot around Liu Sanjie's hometown - Liuhe village. The scenic spot has become one of the top 100 tourist hotspots in the country and one of the most popular boutique routes exploring Guangxi ethnic customs. It is also a protection base for the Liu Sanjie ballad, a national intangible cultural heritage.
