Shi Tieyin was born in 1976 in a beautiful village by the Diaojiang River, in Lalie town, Hechi's Du'an Yao autonomous county. At the age of 6, she lost her right arm due to an electric shock.

In June 1992, Shi was selected for the China national team. On Aug 20, 1992, Shi took part in the ninth Barcelona Paralympic Games, and won a bronze medal for the Chinese sports delegation.

In August 1996, at the 10th Atlanta Paralympic Games, she won the SB8 100-meter breaststroke gold medal with a time of 0.02 seconds faster than the second place finisher. It was the first time that a Chinese athlete won the Paralympic Games in this sport.

Since 1990, she has participated in 20 domestic and international competitions and won 41 gold medals, five silver medals, two bronze medals in total, and broke three world records. In March 2012, Shi was named the "Guangxi Sports Self-improvement Star."

The Paralympics in Tokyo have just concluded. "During the Tokyo Paralympics, I was deeply moved by the Chinese Paralympians, who fought hard and won every medals," Shi said.
