Honored as "China's hometown of wild downy grapes", Hechi's Luocheng Mulam autonomous county is one of the original cultivating areas of downy grapes.
Downy grapes are mainly planted in the western areas of the county, with an annual output of about 4,000 metric tons, where they have benefitted from the region's natural conditions such as abundant soil, sunlight and rainfall.
The wine made from downy grapes – which are known locally as "black pearls", is deep red in color and translucent in appearance.
The wine tastes sweet and slightly sour, with a unique fragrance.
