Huanjiang invests 603 million yuan in hydropower project

Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county in Hechi has completed a total fixed-asset investment of 603 million yuan ($92 million) in water conservancy and hydropower projects during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, providing a strong guarantee for its stable economic and social development.

The county invested 229 million yuan to ensure rural drinking water safety, benefiting 197,800 residents. It has also built a water quality monitoring center and launched the seasonal water shortage guarantee measures.

With an investment of 122 million yuan, 10 flood control projects have been constructed to protect the lives and property of villages along rivers.

A total of 76 million yuan (about $11.6 million dollars) in investment was used for building five small-scale farmland water conservancy projects.

Huanjiang has also invested 52 million yuan to control soil and water loss areas, which effectively improved the ecological environment, as well as the production and living conditions of local residents, increasing agricultural production and incomes earned.

The installed capacity of rural hydropower stations has been increased as 20 million yuan was invested, with the installed capacity of Huanjiang's rural hydropower increased by 2,430 kilowatts.

A total of 60 renovation projects for places being damaged by floods have been finished, with an investment of 16 million yuan, which have helped to save 46,000 metric tons of grain output, protect 38,000 people from floods, as well as reduce economic losses totaling more than 21 million yuan.

The county has also made an investment of 5.1 million yuan to build a flood and drought disaster monitoring and warning system, which has played an important role in the prevention of flood and drought disasters.
