Bama Yao autonomous county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, has opened several 24-hour smart reading rooms since August 2020, offering convenient reading services for local people.

The reading rooms are well-designed with exquisite and elegant interiors. They also contain a rich variety of books.

"The environment here is very good and the learning atmosphere is very strong. People feel comfortable when reading in these reading rooms," said an electricity worker surnamed Tang, who began work last year.

Tang often comes to the reading room near Chengdong Sports Square to read books at night.

He added that he has made many friends with readers from different walks of life in the reading room.

"We strictly control the number of readers, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic," said a volunteer at one of the reading rooms surnamed Li.

Li said that people have to scan their health-tracking QR codes to register at the entrance and have their body temperatures measured.

In addition, self-service book reading, borrowing and returning facilities are available in these reading rooms.
