Donglan county wins national honor again

Donglan county, Hechi was awarded as a national double support model county at the National Double Support Model City (County) Naming and the Double Support Model Unit and Individual Commendation Conference, which was held in Beijing on Oct 20.

Named by the National Double Support Model City (County) Leading Group, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, and the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission, the award is an important symbol of political stability, economic development, and social progress, as well as a renowned calling card for military-civilian unity, social harmony, and stability.

The event is carried out every four years. It is given to a city or county that excels in mutual support between the local government and the armed forces.

Donglan was also listed as a national double support model city in 2016 for the first time due to its red tourism resources and its fruitful achievements in strengthening the connection between the armed forces and the government, as well as between the armed forces and the public.

Donglan county has focused on the national defense education of key groups, with the coverage rate of national defense education in schools reaching more than 95 percent.

Each year, four to 10 percent of the positions are allocated from the county's public institution recruitment plan to recruit retired soldiers with college degrees and above.

The funding for armed forces work is included in the annual fiscal budget, and 45.36 million yuan ($6.81 million) has been invested to promote the overall construction of Donglan's garrison units and 14 township armed forces departments.

At present, the county has rewarded 132 officers and soldiers for meritorious service, awarding them a total of 330,000 yuan. It has performed well in the resettlement of retired soldiers, the employment of military family members, the preferential school attendance of military members' children, the preferential care fee redemption of active servicemen and veterans, as well as military-related rights protection.
