The city of Hechi in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has been exploring new ways to offer skills training to business employees, laid-off staff and migrant workers, in order to help them increase their incomes and shake off poverty.

In 2018, about 300 workers were laid off from Guangxi Hechi Chemical Industry Group and the city's labor union organized three special training courses to help them obtain the appropriate professional qualification certificates to become electricians, welders, and baby nurses.

In 2019, the city's labor union also sought to build a caregiver brand and hosted special training sessions in 11 counties and districts across the city to help 553 people gain the caregiver brand.

Moreover, it concentrated on the training of non-ferrous metals and silk industry workers. To date, over 2,000 workers have received this training.

During the past three years, over 8 million yuan ($1.2 million) has been invested in building entrepreneurship demonstration bases, establishing incubators, nurturing enterprises, and launching training bases and training centers. Over 130 training courses and 180 skills competitions have been organized across the city, benefitting more than 20,000 employees and migrant workers.
