Huanjiang receives 6m yuan for poverty alleviation success

Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county of Hechi has been widely recognized for its achievements in the 2019 annual evaluation of the effectiveness of poverty alleviation efforts, and received a financial reward of 6 million yuan ($878,268.17).

At the end of 2019, 65,900 people and 65 impoverished villages were lifted out of poverty, while the county's incidence of poverty dropped from 19.56 percent in 2015 to 1.48 percent.

The county paid close attention to education, investing 23 million yuan to upgrade its public kindergartens, as well as 720 million yuan to build and improve kindergartens and schools in poverty alleviation resettlement sites. A total of 33.69 million yuan has been put into completing the standardized construction of 12 health centers and 130 village-level clinics, while more than 60 million yuan has been invested to help impoverished households renovate dilapidated houses. In addition, more than 170 million yuan has been invested to implement 359 drinking water safety consolidation and improvement projects, benefiting 93,400 people, including 21,000 impoverished people.

Industry plays an important role in bolstering Huanjiang's poverty alleviation efforts. The county has built three autonomous region-level modern agricultural demonstration areas, six municipal and county-level demonstration areas, as well as 342 characteristic industry demonstration bases. The collective economic income of the county's 145 administrative villages (communities) reached more than 40,000 yuan in 2019. Moreover, through the Guangdong-Guangxi poverty alleviation collaboration, more than 15,000 rural impoverished laborers have found stable employment in Guangdong, 27 leading enterprises have been introduced into Huanjiang, 102 poverty alleviation workshops have been created, and more than 5,800 laborers have been employed.

From 2016 to 2019, Huanjiang completed 1,130 village roads spanning 2,204.98 kilometers, with an investment of 807.56 million yuan, benefiting 190,900 people. All 145 administrative villages in the county have access to hardened roads, fully solving problems in people's daily travel, as well as the transportation of production materials and agricultural products. In addition, 213.39 billion yuan was invested to construct 422 rural network transformation projects, benefiting 95,100 rural households, while 150 million yuan was invested in 125 rural construction broadband network engineering projects and 312 communication base stations.

In addition, Huanjiang has built two large resettlement sites in urban areas and seven in towns, completing the relocation and resettlement of 4,360 households with 17,800 registered impoverished people.
