In order to improve cultural facilities in the resettlement sites which have been created as part of poverty alleviation measures, Hechi plans to build bookstores at the sites where the population is more concentrated. In fact, this year alone, 13 new bookstores have been built, benefiting more than 80,000 impoverished people in the city.

The construction funds for these relocation site bookstores are allocated by the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Subsidized to the tune of 15,000 yuan ($2,171.37) for construction, each bookstore is equipped with bookcases, reading tables and chairs, borrowing management systems, and more.

The books are allocated by the publicity department of each county or district according to the reading needs of the people in the resettlement sites, and they cover politics, children, science and technology, hygiene, and literature, with no less than 400 categories.

Next, the city will focus on building the second batch of bookstores in poverty alleviation relocation sites, improving the management and service methods of the bookstores, expanding the coverage of grassroots public cultural services, and deepening the effectiveness of their work in meeting the spiritual and cultural needs of relocated impoverished people and enhancing their cultural confidence.
