Fengshan trains farmers with new skills

On Aug 11, Fengshan county in Hechi launched a training event for more than 1,000 farmers in Gengsha village, Jinya Yao township, with a total of 65 people signing up for the silkworm training course which took place on the day.

The event is part of a Guangxi poverty alleviation project in connection with the World Bank's results-oriented loan. The project has a total investment of more than 90 million yuan ($13.01 million), of which 4.05 million yuan was invested in rural education improvement, which included the training task for 1,089 farmers.

Fengshan county government has established a leading group to manage the use of foreign loan-funded sub-projects designed to help promote poverty alleviation industries in impoverished areas and improve rural education.

The production technology training courses focus on the consolidation of poverty alleviation and the development of characteristic industries in Fengshan county, covering industries such as walnut management and protection, camellia planting, Chinese herbal medicine planting, vegetable production, and breeding.

The village committee decides the main course and arranges a total of 40 class hours, 24 hours of which are for theoretical study and 16 for practical training. The trainees should be laborers over 16 years old and will be selected by the village committee after voluntary registration.

Professional teachers from Guangxi Radio and Television University will follow the training and management of the whole process and lecturers also include senior agricultural technicians and local talented agricultural experts.
