Huanjiang residents celebrate journey to prosperity

More than 3,000 people of all ethnic groups from Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county gathered in Tonggu Square on July 16 to celebrate the Maonan ethnic group's poverty alleviation success and to embark on a new journey of prosperity.

In recent years, Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county has regarded poverty alleviation as its greatest political responsibility, its largest livelihood project, and its greatest development opportunity. The county has united its strengths and overcome difficulties to achieve great achievements.

A total of 17,800 impoverished people have moved out of mountainous areas, all administrative villages (communities) and more than 20 natural villages have built cement hardened roads, as well as 342 industry demonstration bases have been built. The attainment rate of safe drinking water and village-level standardized clinics, as well as the medical insurance participation rate have all reached 100 percent. The county’s poverty incidence rate decreased from 19.56 percent in 2015 to 1.48 percent in 2019.

On May 9, 2020, Huanjiang officially alleviated poverty.
