Members of the first Cantonese chef training class for targeted poverty alleviation in Dahua Yao autonomous county of Hechi completed their month long training on June 16.
The training class aimed to increase employment incomes by carrying out skills training to help lift impoverished people out of poverty. A total of 102 members concluded the course, including members of 35 impoverished households under the poverty line.
Rural laborers in Dahua can participate in the training for free and choose practical skills courses, such as those for becoming electricians, welders, infants' nurses, and Cantonese chefs as needed. To date, five training courses have been held and 253 villagers have been trained.
"I'm very grateful for having such a learning opportunity. I have learned how to make many dishes and pastries in 30 days, and I want to run a small restaurant later to lift myself out of poverty," said Wang Qingmei, a participant in the chef training class.
