Tourism propels Dahua poverty alleviation efforts

The development of the tourism industry in Dahua Yao autonomous county in Hechi, South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has been making great contribution to its poverty alleviation efforts and has greatly promoted economic development in the county.
In 2019, Dahua received 2.78 million domestic and foreign tourists, an increase of 33.31 percent year-on-year, while its total tourism consumption was 3.49 billion yuan ($489.23 million), an increase of 35.92 percent year-on-year. Since this year, the county has received 446,600 tourists, with a total tourism consumption of 499 million yuan.
Statistics showed that in 2019, the per capita disposable income of urban residents in Dahua was 25,552 yuan, an increase of 8.8 percent year-on-year, while the per capita disposable income of rural residents was 9,141 yuan, an increase of 11.3 percent year-on-year. From 2016 to 2019, 87,122 people have been lifted out of poverty, while the incidence of poverty has dropped from 25.8 percent in 2015 to 4.28 percent in 2019.
