A plum industrial park with a total investment of 4.85 million yuan ($688,604.36) started construction in Changmei town, Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county, Hechi to bolster local poverty alleviation efforts.
Recognized as a National Geographical Indication Product by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2017, Huanjiang plums are one of the characteristic industries of Changmei town. As of the end of 2019, the planting area of plums in the township reached more than 7,000 mu (466.67 hectares), with an annual output value of 20 million yuan, which has become an important source of income for local residents.
After completion, the plum industrial park will implement a business model driven by the government to develop collective economy and help the poor. More than 30 new jobs will be created, and 3,458 people from 891 households in five impoverished villages, as well as 541 people from 137 households in a non-impoverished village will participate in the plum planting.
In addition, enterprises who settle in the park will pay a rent of 180,000 yuan every year, and contribute a village-level collective economic income of 30,000 yuan for six villages in the township every year.
