Yizhou armed forces assist in poverty alleviation efforts

The armed forces department of Yizhou district in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has been devoted to assisting the district's poverty alleviation efforts since 2016, achieving great success.

Liangyin village in the district, the recipient of the department's bail-outs, is located in the Dashi mountainous area and has harsh living conditions.

In 2016, the village had a total population of 2,347, of which 774 people in 194 households were stricken by poverty, and its incidence of poverty was 32.9 percent.

The armed forces department of Yizhou district has invested more than 300,000 yuan ($42,734.29) to help build up bases for the planting of passion fruit and the breeding of beef cattle in the village.

Over 300,000 yuan was also invested by the district government under the coordination of the department in the construction of roads, water tanks, and cultural infrastructure in the village.

A total of 232 dilapidated houses in the village were renovated, and 55 impoverished households were relocated to the district's resettlement areas.

In addition, the department helps in need students to pay their tuition fees and provides basic living allowances for them.

To date, the varieties of cattle at the beef cattle breeding base of Liangyin village have reached 20, while the passion fruit planting base has started producing economic benefits.

The incidence of poverty in the village has dropped to 0.59 percent and the whole village was lifted out of poverty in 2019.

It is expected that all the remaining impoverished households in the village will be lifted out of poverty by the end of 2020.
