Nandan advances agricultural production while fighting against virus

Nandan county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has been advancing its agricultural production while continuing its efforts to prevent and control novel coronavirus pneumonia in recent days.

Agricultural resources, such as seeds, germchit, fertilizers, agricultural films, and pesticides, have been well prepared in the city.

By Feb 17, the county has prepared 37,200 metric tons of fertilizers and 30 tons of agricultural films, as well as 5,000 and 200,000 disease vaccines for livestock and poultry respectively.

A total of 64,000 kilograms of hybrid rice seeds have been ready for this year’s spring plowing, as well as 84,200 kg of corn seeds.

To date, a total of 24,200 mu (1,613.33 hectares) of fields have been plowed, while the plantation areas of spring vegetables and sugarcane have reached 31,400 mu and 150 mu respectively. About 210 mu of mulberries has been planted in the county, as well as 5,000 mu of tobacco seedlings.

Five teams of professional agricultural technicians were sent to the county’s villages to carry out preparations for spring plowing, provide agricultural technical services, as well as publicize information on the prevention and control of major animal diseases.

By Feb 17, a total of 13 problems related to spring plowing have been solved by these agricultural technicians.

Nandan has also publicized information related to the prevention and control of the epidemic, guiding farmers, professional cooperatives, enterprises, and people in the county to strengthen personal protection and to avoid crowds.

Over 300,000 text messages regarding epidemic prevention and control have been sent to people in the county, as well as 5,000 copies of publicity materials about the novel coronavirus.

The county’s bureau of agriculture and rural affairs have also organized officials to the specialized agricultural cooperatives, breeding enterprises, and live poultry trading markets in the county to publicize information regarding the prevention and control of the coronavirus and major animal epidemic diseases, such as the highly pathogenic avian influenza.

The 460 farming cooperatives, 17 farmers markets and live poultry trading markets, as well as 12 farmers who breed bamboo rats, chickens, and quails were all investigated and assessed for safety.
