A total of 86,000 people, including 24,000 registered impoverished ones, in Luocheng Mulam autonomous county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region newly acquired access to clean drinking water by the end of 2019.

Luocheng has been promoting the construction of safe drinking water projects in its rural areas in recent years to improve people's living and working conditions. It invested 114 million yuan ($16.62 million) into the 299 drinking water projects and the construction of 19 water tanks in 2019.

Sanjia village is a deeply impoverished village in the county. People used to have to rely on water tanks to collect rainwater for their daily water usage, with water shortages being extremely severe during arid seasons.

To solve the drinking water problem of Sanjia village, the county government invested 5.73 million yuan, building one pool of 150 cubic meters, one of 100 cu m, four of 50 cu m, three of 30 cu m, four of 10 cu m, and related supporting facilities.

With all the water facilities put into operation, 2,514 people from 609 households in the village gained access to clean and safe drinking water.

"The drinking water project has succeeded in bringing water to the village, which has been a dream for people in the village for many years," said Wei Jinbo, Party secretary of Sanjia village. "Everyone can finally drink clean water."
