Nandan becomes national model for rural innovation, entrepreneurship

Nandan county in Hechi was recently rated as a national model for rural innovation and entrepreneurship by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, one of the two counties in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to receive the rating.

In recent years, Nandan has been promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in its rural areas, achieving some success.

To date, the county has developed five rural innovative and entrepreneurial enterprises, including Guangxi Danquan Liquor Industry Co Ltd, Guangxi Zhongke Qunyuan Agricultural and Forestry Co, and Nandan Yaojia Eco-agriculture Specialized Cooperatives.

Development models that integrate leading enterprises and farmers or leading enterprises, bases, cooperatives, and farmers have been established in the county's rural areas to achieve industrial development.

Four industrial parks for innovation and entrepreneurship have been established in Nandan to date.

In addition, incentive and subsidy policies, covering the fields of rural e-commerce, processing and sales of agricultural products, rural tourism, as well as financial insurance, have also been issued in the county to stimulate rural innovation and entrepreneurship.

Guangxi Danquan Liquor Industry Co Ltd built a cattle farm in Bawei Yao ethnic town in Nandan, which now raises 2,000 head of cattle. It plans to increases the number to 10,000 in the near future, creating more than 100 new jobs, which is expected to help lift over 120 registered impoverished people from 30 households out of poverty.

Guangxi Zhongke Qunyuan Agricultural and Forestry Co built a demonstration zone for green and selenium rich rice in Yueli town, adopting the "leading enterprises, bases, cooperatives, and farmers" model. It has signed order contracts with 741 households in the town to increase their incomes.

Nandan Yaojia Eco-agriculture Specialized Cooperatives developed the brand of Baping rice. More than 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of Baping rice is planted annually at the core area of the county's demonstration zones, benefiting 768 households.

In 2019, the total agricultural output value of the county increased by 6 percent year-on-year, while the per capita disposable income of rural residents saw a yearly growth rate of 9.5 percent.
