Rural economy prospers in Nandan

In recent years, Nandan county in Hechi has been promoting the development of its rural economy to increase the incomes of farmers in the county.

Policies and subsidies to support the development of agriculture have been fully implemented in Nandan.

The county has get the "green, high-quality, and efficient plantation of rice" projects by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for three consecutive years, growing a total of 100,000 mu (6,667 hectares) of rice for the projects. The rice yield per mu in the project area was 451.9 kilograms, 5.4 percent higher than that in the non-project areas.

An ecological circular agriculture planting model was also established in the county's project areas, with ducks and fish reared alongside the rice.

The average output value of ducks raised in the 60,200 mu of rice fields is 795.10 yuan ($115.58) per mu, while that of fish in the 10,500 mu of rice fields is 686.70 yuan per mu.

The 10 poverty alleviation industries in Nandan, namely walnuts, fruit, tea-oil trees, sugar canes, mulberry, Chinese chestnuts, beef cattle and mutton sheep, pigs, freshwater aquaculture, as well as green and selenium rich agricultural products, have also seen rapid development in recent years.

In 2019, the new plantation area of tea-oil trees reached 9,000 mu, while that for green and selenium rich agricultural products was 11,000 mu.

The county has also established characteristic agricultural products brands, including Baping rice and Liulong tea.

To date, Nandan has had 36 agricultural products certified as organic, green, pollution-free, and original products with geographical indications, totaling a certified plantation area of 95,200 mu.

The total plantation area of Baping and selenium rich rice in the county reached 22,000 mu, with an annual output value of more than 60 million yuan.

Nandan has been promoting the establishment of a modern characteristic agriculture demonstration area to boost the integrated development of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries in its rural areas.

In addition, various kinds of folk activities were carried out to attract tourists to the county's countryside.

The two harvest festivals held in the county's Baping and Yongli villages attracted more than 40,000 visitors, generating total tourism revenue of over 7 million yuan.

The quality and safety supervision system for agricultural products was further improved in Nandan. In 2019, the county was listed among the second batch of national agricultural product quality safety counties.
