$6.08m donated for Hechi's impoverished people
The Hechi branch of New China Life Insurance Co Ltd donated a total of 42.5 million yuan ($6.08 million) in comprehensive accident insurance for the 500 registered impoverished people in the city's Bawei Yao ethnic town.
The donation is the latest in the company's efforts to help lift poverty-stricken areas out of poverty in recent years.
The insurance covers accidental death or disability, as well as medical treatment. The insurance period will last from Dec 26, 2019 to Dec 25, 2020.
According to Jiang Zhengli, deputy county chief of the city's Nandan county, there are currently 16,318 impoverished people in Bawei, accounting for 34 percent of the county's total population.
The donation of 500 pieces of comprehensive accident insurance is an act of charity dedicated to poverty alleviation and concern for the poor, said Jiang, adding that it will also fuel common efforts to fight against poverty in Nandan.
Meng Yunlong, Party secretary of Bawei town, said that the comprehensive accident insurance can alleviate and reduce the risk of poverty returning due to illness, disasters, or disability.
This is the second year that the Hechi branch of New China Life Insurance Co Ltd has donated to Bawei town. Last year, the company donated insurance for the 126 registered impoverished people in the town.
