Donglan's poverty alleviation efforts generates fruitful results
Donglan county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region achieved positive results in its poverty alleviation efforts in 2019, with 34 villages, 5,513 households, and 21,299 people lifted out of poverty.
The county has been improving its infrastructure since the beginning of 2019. More than 89.32 million yuan ($12.77 million) was invested by the county government into new construction, continued construction, and upgrading of 212 roads in the county, totaling a length of 378.28 kilometers.
A total of 4.83 million yuan was allocated for the implementation of 24 irrigation and water conservancy projects in 2019, while 3.37 million yuan was used to build 45 drinking water facilities.
Four enterprises from the eastern part of China were introduced to Donglan in 2019, with a total investment of 259 million yuan, which helped lift 856 people out of poverty.
Two industrial parks and 24 workshops for poverty alleviation were also established in the county in 2019, employing 659 people from nearby areas, of which 175 were registered as impoverished.
Consumption-oriented poverty alleviation activities were also frequently carried out in the county this year. The amount of consumption totaled 3.17 million yuan, lifting 100 people out of poverty.
The county also held seven career training courses in 2019 for 1,024 registered impoverished people. Nearly 2,740 impoverished people were transferred to areas beyond the county for employment, of which 2,555 were transferred to Guangdong province.
In addition, a total of 66.03 million yuan was funded to Donglan by Shenzhen, which is paired to help Hechi with its poverty alleviation efforts.
It was mainly used for the renovation of dilapidated houses for impoverished families, as well as the construction of teaching buildings, Donglan Longhua Hi-Tech Industrial Park, poverty alleviation workshops, and infrastructure in the county's poverty-stricken areas.
