Guangxi-Guizhou highway to open to traffic next year
Construction of the highway that connects Daji village in Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Lihua village in Libo county, Guizhou province is in full swing, and is expected to open to traffic next year.
The two places, which are adjacent to each other, boast similar cultural customs and complementary industries. However, the rugged and steep mountain roads have become the biggest obstacle to mutual cultural exchanges and economic cooperation between the two sides in the past few decades.
To bolster their poverty alleviation efforts, the two villages decided to build the inter-provincial highway, construction of which started in July 2019.
The highway is about 8 kilometers in length. To date, the section in Guizhou has been hardened and is passable.
The section in Guangxi is 5 km long and 3.5 meters wide, with a total investment of 1.24 million yuan ($176,953). It is in the midst of finishing the subgrade construction.
